Candles, coconut oil, cocoa, fondant, vanilla cake. Performance documented through photography.

The performance and cake-painting artwork of 19 delves into common concerns of those in their late teen years. This includes the worry of slowly becoming an adult and losing childishness, of needing to move out of home in an approaching future, and most of all the all-encompassing worry of "growing up". Through painting a childhood photo onto a birthday cake, and then consuming this self portrait in a performative piece, Cait Dowley contemplates the ways in which we fear time moving forwards in its inescable turn.
